Chinese New Year

We went to Cambodia for Chinese New Year. Two weeks of uninterrupted fun. Oh, and no classes, kids, or work to worry about at all. It was great! I saw some very interesting things in Cambodia, some beautiful and some shocking. The Angkor Temples were phenomenal! Definintely a must-see for anyone who has the opportunity to travel around Southeast Asia.

To quote Faye, "Cambodia rocks my world! Does it rock yours?" (This was after she'd had a few drinks!)

Well, to put it in a few different words, I really enjoyed Cambodia. I will put up pictures soon...

And by soon, I mean in a month and a half. Adam has loaded the pictures up on to the internet, so put the link up ASAP. I am not responsible for the captions, just so you know. Also, there are a TON of pictures, and Adam did a fantastic job putting the captions up. Hopefully tomorrow!

Back to the grind.

Well, Adam and I successfully made it back to Taiwan from North America. We had a fantastic time in both Decorah and St. John's (Newfoundland, for those of you that didn't know). Here are some highlights:

Mom had a party so everyone could come over and check out Adam. Here he is with Jamie and I, having a great time.

No, really, it was a fun time and he was the life of the party, as always.

We also went to the Back Home Bakery to hang out with some old people and eat doughnuts, but we were the only people there!

Fortunately, we got to take this picture of Krumkake, which Adam thought was very funny. I guess if you've never heard of it before, it might be kind of funny. (It is pronounced croom-ca-ca, it is a Norwegian cookie.)

Then we got to witness a dog driving a car. This is only legal in Decorah, Iowa. Look carefully and you will see the Border Collie behind the wheel.

We went to Wal-Mart and watched Andy play Big Buck Hunter. Awesome!

Adam played with his new Christmas present.

We played mini-golf on the TV at my dad's house.

We saw some Amish people riding in their buggies.

Lastly, I spent a nice relaxing Christmas day curled up in my new Hawkeye blanket!

Then it was off to St. John's. We were very busy the whole time we were there. To look at the pictures from St. John's go to Adam's link: http://picasaweb.google.com/theadamhunt/AdamAndKatieInNewfoundland

Here are just a couple of my favorite ones.

New Year's Eve, and as you can tell, Adam is having a blast!

It really was a fun night, we got to wear these cool hats, it was snowing big fat snowflakes, and there were fireworks! I loved it!

Here we are at his friends' wedding.

Okay, that is all for now. Sorry it has been so long, but I will try to be better. We leave for Cambodia Feb. 10th for Chinese New Year, and we will be gone for two weeks, so hopefully I will get pictures up soon after we get back!

Day of Fun!

As an extension of my birthday, this weekend Adam and I went to Janfusun Fancy World! It is an amusement park about an hour and a half from Taichung. We had a blast! The cartoon mascots of Fancy World are birds, a little glow worm, a cow, and a giant cake! Fabulous! Here are some pictures! Just click on the picture to make it bigger if you want to.

From Janfusun Fanc...
First we got on a bus to go to Fancy World. We were two of six people on the entire bus, which is quite an anomaly in Asia.

As soon as we got to Fancy World, we came face to face with the Fancy World characters themselves. Of course we had to stop for some pictures!

From Janfusun Fanc...
Here is Adam with the blue glow worm (at least we think it was a glow worm, either that or a piece of poop). His name was BoBo.

From Janfusun Fanc...
Here I am with the giant cake. Yes, it was a cake, and its name was CaCa.

From Janfusun Fanc...
This bird starting poking and molesting me. Its name was DoDo. I actually had to bend my knees to take a picture with it. There must have been a child inside of it, it was so short!

From Janfusun Fanc...
Here is the cow/bull FeFe. It must have been tired or something because it was lying on the steps. Adam and I thought it was hilarious! The two birds had pretty sweet names too, KiKi and KuKu. They all sounded like they had been named by babies - DoDo, BoBo, FeFe, CaCa, KiKi, and KuKu. WTF?

From Janfusun Fanc...
Here is the ginormous ferris wheel at Fancy World! Pretty fancy, wouldn't you say?

From Janfusun Fanc...
This was the first ride that we went on. "G-5 Diving Machine"

From Janfusun Fanc...
It was a straight drop down into a hole in the ground. We loved it!

From Janfusun Fanc...
Since the food in this country is atrocious, we had to bring our own little sack lunches. I felt like I was in elementary school again with my PB&J sandwich, juice box, potato chips, and raisins! Complete with Rice Krispie Treats for dessert, thanks to Sabra and Victoria for the birthday package!

From Janfusun Fanc...
This was a little cow next to an ice cream stand. Adam did a nice impression, tongue and all!

From Janfusun Fanc...
At this store, they had childhood bogs fun. No, not bugs, bogs.

From Janfusun Fanc...
They had a little stunt show going on as well. There was an acrobat who walked on this blue thing as it went around.

From Janfusun Fanc...
Then there were these awesome motorcycle men.

From Janfusun Fanc...
They actually both got into "the cage of death" and drove their motorcycles around it at the same time. We didn't get a picture of the girl, but then they put a girl inside the cage with them and drove around. It was pretty cool!

From Janfusun Fanc...
Here is the view from the ferris wheel. On the left is the G-5 and on the right was the other roller coaster, which was called something like, "The Floorless Roller Coaster."

Here was the log ride. Look closely and tell me what you see.

From Janfusun Fanc...
Oh, yes. That would be Taiwanese people wearing ponchos and raincoats on the log ride! What an idea!

From Janfusun Fanc...
I'll let you guess whether this sign was for the little boys' room or the little girls' room.

In case of emergency: 1. Push the alarm BOTTOM. 2. Hold the nozzle and out the hose. 3. Turn the valve and release the water. Any questions?

Here I am training to become an airline pilot.

Happy Birthday to me!

Well, my birthday was fantastic! It is one of the best birthdays I have ever had, and I owe much thanks to Adam. The day started out pretty normal. I went to work, got a funny card from my coworkers, taught the kids, and got a couple of funny presents from them. Then after work, Adam and I came home and he told me we were going out to eat. He surprised me by taking me to a great restaurant, The Pumpkin House, and then showering me with gifts. Okay, well, some of the gifts were from my mom, but he did wrap them up and make them look nice. You can tell by the wrapping paper! He then gave me the best surprise anyone could ask for - a Hello Kitty MP3 player! I absolutely love it! It is the cutest thing and it is practical, I may add. Then we went for a little walk around the neighborhood of the restaurant and tried out some of the "exercise" equipment. He then told me we needed to go to our friend Faye's house to "pick up something else." Well, it turns out that some more of our friends were at the house and that Faye had made me a lovely birthday cake. Well, it tasted lovely, but it kind of looked like a piece of poop, literally. But it was good, and that's all that matters! So, it was a great birthday! Hope you enjoy the pictures!

This is the package my mom sent, with the dazzling wrapping paper courtesy of Adam.

Some close ups of the present. I don't know what he was talking about, because I thought that the wrapping was phenomenal! It was definitely the most original paper I've ever seen!

Our delicious meal, complete with a bottle of wine. This was actually our second table of the evening. We were sitting at a different table, but there was so much food that there wasn't enough room on the table!

From My Birthday!
Here is Adam with all of the food!

From My Birthday!
I even got to eat some pumpkin cheesecake, complete with a little votive candle! The staff at the restaurant were very friendly and added this candle when they found out it was my birthday!

From My Birthday!
This is the box that my MP3 player came in! Even the box was cute!

From My Birthday!
Here I am sitting outside of the restaurant next to some pumpkins on a bench. The ENTIRE restaurant was decked out in pumpkins; there were pumpkins EVERYWHERE!

From My Birthday!
The menu posted outside the restaurant had a couple of funny mistakes that made us chuckle. First, and one of the reasons Adam said he decided to take me here, was that in Taiwan they believe Iowa to be the Potato State, and of course I ordered an Iowa Classic Potato Gratin. I know my mom can make some pretty good Potatoes Au Gratin, but I didn't know they were an Iowa Classic!

From My Birthday!
Also, don't forget to wash your meal down with some Semen Tea.

Then we headed over to my old house, where Faye had baked a delicious chocolate cake!
